June 2006 I recently traveled to NYC to see "The Art of Betty Woodman" at the Metropolitan Museum of Art. It covers 50 years of Betty's work and shows her transformation from vessel maker to sculptor/painter. As Peter Schjeldahl says in his New Yorker review, she has invented her own genre. I was lucky to have worked for Betty as a teenager in Colorado, and later to study with her in grad school at the University of Colorado in Boulder. We are standing in front of "Aeolian Pyramid". |
