Greece
Our family trip to Greece was, in part, to visit the land where my mother’s family is from. With the help of my cousins we traveled to small villages near Sparta where my Great Grandmother and Great Grandfather lived, along with their six children. Three of those children immigrated to the U.S., one of them was my Grandmother Maria. (My large Pithoi Portal Vases depict images from my Grandmother’s 1955 return trip to visit her family.) The image of the altar was shot inside a mausoleum type room in the graveyard; I left one of my cups there with an image of my Grandmother and her mother. Many of the other images were shot in Crete at the Heraklion Museum; this phenomenal collection of Minoan art left me breathless!
